I Don´t know How to Measure the Height of My Floors?
Getting the Correct measurements of your home is essential before placing your final order. While SWIFT can still manage adjustments if the lift height is incorrect, it may lead to unexpected delays and added costs. That’s why, at the final stage, a certified SWIFT technician will visit your property to verify measurements and review your architectural drawings.
However, long before reaching that stage, conducting an initial measurement yourself is extremely useful. It helps us provide an early quote and a rough cost estimate.
As a digital-first brand, SWIFT offers user-friendly tools to help you measure your home’s height remotely. Feel free to reach out — we’re here to guide you.
Tips for Measuring Floor Height at Home
To ensure your lift is designed accurately, here are some common methods to measure the height between floors and the total travel height of the lift:
1. Measuring Tape
A traditional tape measure is simple but effective. Identify where the lift will be installed and measure vertically from the floor to the ceiling or next level. Keep the tape straight for the most accurate reading. Note the measurement in both meters and millimeters.
2. Laser Distance Meter
For greater precision, use a laser distance meter. These tools offer quick and accurate readings by projecting a laser beam at the target height. Stand a few feet back, aim the device, and get an instant height measurement.
3. Smartphone Measurement Apps
Many smartphones today offer AR-based apps that can calculate distances using the camera and internal sensors. These can be a convenient option if professional tools aren’t available.
4. Don’t Forget Inter-Floor Distance
One of the most overlooked factors is the inter-floor construction — the actual thickness of the floor between levels. If the floor has already been cut for the lift, this is easier to measure directly. For uncut or sealed floors, refer to building plans or consult your contractor to determine this measurement accurately.
Taking measurements from multiple points can help improve accuracy. Once you know the total height — including floor-to-floor distances — you’ll be ready to finalize the specifications for your SWIFT home lift.
SWIFT has created a unique home lift studio with tools to digitally help out with measurements and to check your site. During the call we can also visualise more about how the home lift works and what to think about.
