The Norwegian Villa

On a plot by Exercisfältet in Landskrona, overlooking the Öresund strait and the island of Ven, stands the Norwegian Villa – originally part of the Nordic housing exhibition in 1963 at the Landskrona Art Gallery. Designed by Norwegian architects Paul Cappelen and Torbjørn Rodahl, the villa was later moved to its current location.

Taken over in 2022 by its current owners – themselves architects – the house had lost much of its original character, and the project became a careful reconstruction of its architectural idea. The core of the project has been to restore the strict, panel-clad volume on the upper floor, with its defined windows facing west and south. The upper-level layout largely follows the original plan, while the kitchen was moved to the ground floor and the dining area opened with glazing around the corner.

Today, the house is organized across four floors and adapted for long-term everyday living. Early on, a lift became a natural part of the project, and SWIFT was selected as the solution and integrated into the home. The ochre-yellow finish, inspired by an original 1960s cabinet, serves as a clear yet playful accent in the home. The yellow lift with its fully glazed doors creates a play of light and a feeling that “makes you happy every day.” The lift is used daily and has proven equally practical for people as for serving and cleaning trolleys across all four floors.

The Norwegian Villa is today a meeting between 1960s heritage and contemporary living – where architecture, reuse, and function are reinterpreted in dialogue with the sea.

The Norwegian Villa is today a home where a 1960s heritage meets a contemporary interpretation – where architecture, reuse, and function are woven into a new whole in dialogue with its setting and views over the sea.

SWIFT – like a piece of artwork and a valuable everyday companion – both for moving people and for transporting serving and cleaning trolleys across all four floors.
