Learn more about home lifts

There are numerous types of elevators and lifts to suit all manner of buildings and homes. The most common lifts or elevators for public use are traction elevators, hydraulic elevators, pneumatic elevator and other conventional lifts driven by belts, oil and counterweights.

Such passenger lifts are suitable for multi-floors hotels, airports and other public buildings that require high speed and high capacity in order to transport thousands of people. These passenger lifts require a lot of safety space both under and above the lift, a separate shaft, additional landing doors on each floor, 3-phase power preparation and lots of building work. Normally these are not elevators that you put in a home.

In other public places such as museums, railway stations, schools, a “platform lift type” elevator provides a simpler and cheaper alternative. Platform lifts run at a slower speed and are most often installed to fulfil accessibility requirements. A platform lift can be driven by a screw and nut system, chains or a hydraulic solution. The design is mostly focusing on a disability need, ergonomic aspects and to have a solution that can resist heavy use, rain, dirt, vandalism and misuse. Neither these lifts are normally put in a private homes.

To solve accessible problems for elderly and disabled people in private homes, there are a number of 1st generation home lift solutions. These include stair lifts, floor lifts, chair lifts, as well as pneumatic home lifts and vacuum lifts. Most of these have a design focusing on a “disability problem” and to keep design and cost as low as possible. These home lift solutions do their job, but ecstatically they are not made for a beautiful living room or for people without an immediate “need”.

SWIFT is a new breed of home lifts which combines the performance of traditional lifts, the safety, ergonomics and simplicity of “disability lifts” with the latest technology and design concepts. We simply take advantage of the simple and functional nature of a platform lift, while maintaining the beauty and power of a conventional lift.

Whether you are renovating your home, or designing a new home, and you want a domestic house lift – regardless of being young, middle age, elderly, able or disable you should check this out. Our home liftt is designed around typical home conditions, normal modern families and with technology and estetics in focus.

SWIFT Pro has a maximum speed of 0.3 m/s (outside Europe). The speed can be adjusted by the user from the 10″ dynamic touch display.

SWIFT Lite has a speed of 0,15 m/s as standard and 0,3 m/s as an option (outside Europe).

SWIFT has a unique screw and nut drive system (patent pending) that is extremely reliable and safe. It complies with Europe’s strictest lift regulations – the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the European Standard EN81-41.

The drive system has been specifically developed to provide a smooth and silent user experience. With normal use a SWIFT home lift consumes less power than a microwave oven and is more silent than a high-performance dishwasher.

The home lift is driven by a screw and nut system, a geniously compact solution that was originally developed in Sweden. An electrical motor makes the nut rotate around the screw and moves the lift up and down. The SWIFT screw and nut system has been specifically developed to optimise the user experience.

Screw and nut systems are extremely safe, robust and reliable. The concept was originally developed in Sweden for use in public places such as museums, railway stations, schools and shops. There are numerous benefits of the screw and nut drive system. Building work and the space required is kept to a minimum and the home lift requires little or no maintenance.

The maximum speed of 0,15 m/s to 0.3 m/s (outside Europe) is ideal for buildings with just a few floors.

If your house has more than 6 floors, and you still want to install a home lift, we recommend other solutions than screw and nut.

SWIFT has a unique screw and nut drive system (patent pending) that is extremely reliable and safe. Thanks to the Tesla-inspired battery solution, you don’t need to worry about getting trapped inside the home lift in case there is a mains power failure. SWIFT’s unique “anti-trap” system will ensure that the lift continues to operate with normal speed and functionality.

SWIFT has a unique Tesla-inspired drive system whereby batteries are charged as the home lift moves downwards. With normal use a SWIFT home lift consumes less power than a microwave oven.

Maximum power needed is 900W, 220 V single phase with 6A (8A) fuses.

SWIFT is an all-inclusive home lift with a platform and a modular shaft. The shaft can be personalised with glass panels or shaft panels depending on your interior design and floor plan. There is no need for an external shaft and the home lift can be installed directly on the floor or set in a 50 mm pit. There is no need for extra safety headroom.

All home lifts have built-in SWIFT Safety features such as smart doors to prevent children’s fingers from getting trapped in them. The home lift itself has safety sensors and dual safety breaks for complete peace of mind. SWIFT Pro also have a child lock feature that prevents children from using the lift unless a pin code is entered, All home lifts can also be remotely accessible by our SWIFT service team ready to provide quick support if need be.

The SWIFT platform lifts are available in 4 different sizes and are presented below together with the corresponding “hole-through-the-floor” measurements. We are also more than happy to provide drawings of the total lift dimensions.

SWIFT is made for 3-5 people depending on the size and the weight load required:
S = (830×1000 mm) –> 3 persons
M = (830×1100 mm) –> 3 persons
L = (1200×1000 mm) –> 5 persons
XL = (1400×1100 mm) –> 5 persons

Conventional elevators require safety space under the elevator and generous space above for the machine room. In commercial buildings this is normally no problems, but in private homes this is of course not so easy.

SWIFT has therefor been developed to avoid these space requirements. Our home elevator can be installed directly on the floor with a small ramp or in a 50 mm pit to align the home lift with the floor.

With SWIFT home lift, the only thing that needs to be prepared before the installation is the pit (if applicable) and the “hole-through-the-floor”. Normally, SWIFT simply checks that this work has been done in the right way by checking the drawings or making the actual measurements during the home visit.

SWIFT can also assist in cutting an opening in the floors, but please note that this will be charged separately. If the lift is to be installed in the middle of a staircase, no “hole-through-the-floor” is needed.

Most home lifts tend to be installed in the middle of a staircase. That way, the lift beautifully follows the stairs from the ground floor to the top floor. The lift is fixed to the stairs and on each floor level.

Generally speaking, the home lift can be installed anywhere in your home, as long as there is enough space and you have sufficient fixing points.

It normally takes 2-4 days to install a platform lift type in your house, depending on the number of floors. Prior to installation, you need to consider how much space you have available and where the home lift can be located.

SWIFT requires minimal space below and above the home lift. The most important thing to prepare is the correct dimensions for the “hole-through-the-floor”. Normally, SWIFT simply checks that this work has been done in the right way by checking the drawings or making the actual measurements during the home visit. At additional cost SWIFT can also manage the preparation of the pit and the cut out of the “hole-through-the-floor.”

If the home lift is to be installed in the middle of a staircase, SWIFT needs to review drawings to make sure there are sufficient fixing points.

Production and delivery is normally 4-6 weeks from ordering to shipping of your home lift. Final delivery time depends on the country and exact configuration.

Before the home lift arrives on site, the SWIFT installation team will visit your home to make sure everything is suitably prepared. When the home lift arrives, the team will begin with the installation process, which normally takes 2-4 days.

If your home has floor heating, this needs to be carefully reviewed prior to installation. We have lots of expertise in tailoring solutions, so go ahead and get in touch with us!

A staircase installation means that the lift is installed in the middle of a staircase. This is a very typical and good position for the home lift. The home lift will then be fixed to the stairs and each floor level. A free standing home lift is an installation where the lift stands in any open area of the home. The lift is then fixed to each floor level.

SWIFT has a life cycle time of at least 50.000 runs with a maximum load. For a normal family this equals 20+ years.

For optimal performance of your home lift we recommend SWIFT’s Support and Maintenance Package including 2 service visits/year. During the visit we review the lift performance, upgrade software and change wear and tear items like oil and belts.

SWIFT comes with a generous warranty and maintenance package. Please visit your local market and nearest showroom for more details.
